Soaring sales at Smartedge

Smartedge, manufacturers of the eponymous lawn edging system, saw its sales rise by more than a quarter during 2006.

As a result of events such as Glee 2006, the company says it is following up hundreds of sales leads from an audience which included landscapers, contractors, designers and architects.

Enquiries have come not just from within the UK either; agencies based in France, Spain, Holland and Germany are taking orders and the company has won a contract to supply over 2000m of Smartedge to a local government green space project in Europe.

Closer to the Hertfordshire-based company's home, Smartedge is being used in the garden at Knebworth House. Head Gardener, David Roberts commented: "Out of curiosity we drove a small tractor towing a trailer with large filled water butts over one of our deeper Smartedged edges.

“It was installed about two years ago and I expected it to squash and then return to shape. It didn't. There was no movement at all, no buckling whatsoever. Very impressive!"

Designed for the lawn edge and flowerbeds or between lawn and path to prevent roots and earth distorting the lawn edge, Smartedge is available in 5m, 10m or 50m lengths.

A patented A-frame system allows the grass on top of the edge to grow through and secure Smartedge to the ground at both the top and bottom of the edging, which provides the strength. Weather and stain resistant, the product can be recycled and is non-toxic.
